Angelina Jolie shares the reason she went barefoot on The Tonight Show

Angelina Jolie has explained why she chose to go barefoot during her recent appearance on The Tonight Show

The Hollywood star appeared on the show Thursday to talk about her role as Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s Maria. However, host Jimmy Fallon couldn’t help but address one curious detail first.

«I noticed that you’re barefoot,» he said as she sat beside his desk. «Did you forget your shoes?» Jolie’s response, however, took everyone by surprise.

Jolie explained, “No, I broke my toe yesterday, and I couldn’t find a comfortable shoe, so I just decided not to wear any.” She also opened up about her nerves, revealing it’s been a long time since she appeared on a talk show.

«I get very nervous on talk shows. I get very uncomfortable, and I haven’t done one in, like, a decade. This is so not my thing,» she admitted. Despite her discomfort, she engaged in a candid conversation about her new film and her children.

When asked if any of her six kids—Shiloh, Knox, Pax, Vivienne, Zahara, and Maddox, whom she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt—might follow her into showbiz, she shared, «I think some of them want to work behind the scenes, but especially Shiloh, they really want to be private.»

She explained further, «Just private, not photographed, not in the spotlight. I think Shiloh, most of all, values her privacy. It must be difficult because everyone’s famous, but it wasn’t their choice.»

Jolie added, “Some people are more comfortable with the public eye, and some are more comfortable with talk shows.»

During the interview, Jolie was asked about her backup career choice if acting hadn’t worked out.

«Is it true you were studying to become a funeral director?» Fallon inquired.

«Yes,» Jolie confirmed. «Doesn’t it make sense though?»

She shared that after her grandfather’s death, she felt mourning should be a celebration of life, and since she wasn’t afraid of death, she thought it could be a fulfilling career. «I could make this better,» she said.

Fallon responded, «We need more people like that.»

Jolie mentioned she still sees funeral directing as her «fallback career,» though acting remains her true path. Her latest project, Maria, has her portraying the legendary opera singer Maria Callas, whose legacy is revived on the big screen. The film will be released in selected theatres and on Netflix on December 11.
