Kate Middleton surprises cancer patients at the hospital where she was treated last year in a rare public outing

On Tuesday, January 14, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, made a rare public appearance at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she had received treatment the previous year.

During her visit, Kate expressed gratitude to the hospital staff for their care and support throughout her own cancer treatment, while also meeting with patients currently undergoing therapy.

The Princess spoke with individuals undergoing chemotherapy and shared a touching moment with one patient, offering a hug.

She reflected on her experience, noting the significant impact cancer treatments have on families. «The treatments are really so different and so varied, it impacts families differently,» Kate shared, according to the BBC.

She also spoke about her return to the hospital, mentioning how visiting after completing her own treatment felt comforting. «It’s quite nice,» she said of coming back to the hospital after a series of private visits during her care.

A spokesperson from Kensington Palace explained that the Princess wanted to express her thanks to the staff while also highlighting the world-class care provided at the hospital.

Following her visit, it was announced that Kate and Prince William would become joint patrons of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.

Dame Cally Palmer, Chief Executive of the Trust, expressed her honor in welcoming Kate to the hospital and shared her excitement about the new royal patronage.

She emphasized how important this support is for both staff and patients, allowing the hospital’s efforts to be recognized globally. The Royal Marsden, founded in 1851, continues to be a leader in cancer care, research, and education.

In September, Kate had completed a challenging nine-month chemotherapy treatment. She later described the relief of finishing her treatment and expressed her commitment to staying cancer-free.

She publicly revealed her diagnosis in March 2024, describing it as a “huge shock.” The type of cancer remains undisclosed, following her earlier surgery in January 2024.
