Sabrina Carpenter was rejected for a role on The Conners, Whitney Cummings says, «Thank God We Said No»
Whitney Cummings believes that Sabrina Carpenter’s career might have taken a very different turn.
The 42-year-old comedian talked candidly about the most important lessons she’s learned during her career during ELLE’s Women in Hollywood Celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, California.

Cummings explained that she has had to focus on becoming «super comfortable with rejection» since «this business is mostly rejection.»
The creator of Two Broke Girls said that she has discovered that rejection may really be a good thing as it creates space for a greater chance to present itself.
Cummings gave the example of Carpenter, 25, who was previously rejected for a part on the ABC series The Conners.

«Sabrina Carpenter tried out, but it wasn’t a good fit. «She was turned down that day when we were casting the daughter,» she recalled, referring to the part that eventually went to Emma Kenney, who plays Shameless.
Additionally, Cummings added, «thank God we turned her down because she would have been stuck on a sitcom set and not be Sabrina Carpenter.»

Since her debut on the Disney Channel program Girl Meets World, Carpenter has become a well-known singer thanks to singles like «Espresso,» «Please Please Please,» and «Taste.» Her international Short n’ Sweet Tour is now underway.
Cummings continued to discuss rejection and connected it to Carpenter, saying, «I believe that our culture still instills in us the need to succeed and receive a yes.

Because you’ll be stuck on the incorrect show for seven years, sometimes receiving a yes is the worst thing you can get. You’re in the wrong thing.”
Cummings added that she understood it was true as soon as things started “popping off” for her professionally.

I believe I need to save the man I’m with. My partners are drug addicts. Regarding that period in her life, she remarked, «I can’t create boundaries. The objective is, like, to not deplete yourself, you know? … Make sure you give your personal life adequate attention.
