Katy Perry sobs during sad school shootings Survivor Idol performance: we were let down by our country

One of the most poignant and significant American Idol auditions was given by Trey Louis. In the episode that aired on February 26,

the 21-year-old mattress salesman disclosed to the judges that he had survived the shooting at Sante Fe High School.

Trey responded that he wanted to «bring some good» back to his community when asked why he wanted to be on the show.

Upon hearing Trey’s heartbreaking tale and Whiskey Myers’ rendition of «Stone,» Katy Perry began to cry. Our country has f—ing failed us, she shouted while holding her head in her hands. «Facts,» Trey retorted.

The vocalist of «Firework» said, «This is not acceptable. You love music, so you ought to sing here.

In the May 18, 2018, school shooting, Trey stated he «lost a lot of pals.» When the shooter first started firing, the singer was inside the second art room.

In the end, the shooter opened fire in his studio. That day, ten individuals died, including eight students.

«I hope you remind people that change is necessary. Because, truth be told, I’m terrified too,» Katy confessed while sobbing. A tear was brushed away by Lionel Richie. To reassure Katy, Luke Bryan put his hand on her shoulder.

To vote on Trey’s performance, Lionel made the decision. Lionel said he «can’t wait to see» Trey in Hollywood and gave him his first «yes.»

Before telling Trey, «You’re perfect,» Luke became emotional. Trey received his third and last «yes» from Katy as she thanked him.

At this poignant moment, Trey received hugs from all the judges. The judges took a breather after informing Trey that he would be moving to Hollywood. Luke gave Lionel and Katy hugs.

The Sante Fe High School massacre in 2018 was at the time Texas’ bloodiest school shooting. Regrettably, the horrific Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, which claimed 22 lives, eclipsed Sante Fe in May 2022.

A bipartisan gun safety bill was signed into law by President Biden in the wake of the Uvalde school shooting. One of the most significant pieces of gun safety legislation in recent decades was the law.
