Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are mourning the loss of their beloved dog, Chewie, who passed away on February 4 at the age of 17.

During Wednesday’s episode of *Live with Kelly and Mark*, Consuelos shared the heart-wrenching news, revealing that they had to say goodbye to their Shih Tzu, who had been struggling with health issues.

The couple made the difficult decision to have Chewie euthanized at home, with a vet coming to their New York City apartment.

«Chewie stopped eating and had become severely dehydrated, with some neurological problems,» Consuelos explained.

«It’s one of the hardest things we’ve had to do as a couple, but we knew it was the right choice.»

Ripa, visibly emotional, wiped away tears and spoke about the deep bond they had with their dog. «Chewie was with us through so many stages of life,» she said.

«She was a constant presence, especially as our kids left for college. She was a true companion.»

Consuelos comforted Ripa, noting that pet owners can understand the grief of losing a cherished animal.

The couple expressed their gratitude for the love and support they’ve received from friends and neighbors, with Ripa sharing a touching moment after Chewie’s passing.

«She never let us kiss her face, but after she passed, I kissed her a thousand times,» Ripa recalled, laughing through her tears.

Chewie, who was part of the family alongside their other dog Lena, will be deeply missed by the Consuelos family, who thanked fans for their outpouring of sympathy during this difficult time.
