Selena Gomez was taken by surprise at the SAG Awards win for Only Murders in the Building, humorously teasing that Martin Short and Steve Martin weren’t there because «they don’t really care.»

Selena Gomez took home the award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, Feb. 23.

She accepted the honor solo, as her costars Steve Martin and Martin Short were absent from the ceremony.

Martin had previously shared that Short tested positive for COVID-19 after attending the SNL50: The Anniversary Special the previous week.

«We never win. This is so strange!» Gomez joked on stage, teasing her absent castmates.

«Marty and Steve aren’t here because, well, they don’t really care.»

She continued, acting as though she might forget to mention them, «But seriously, thank you to Marty and Steve for… well, they raised me.

I’m truly so grateful to everyone involved. The writers, everyone who worked on this show — we all deserve this.

I’m taking it home for all of us and bringing it back to New York for season five. Thank you so much!»

Only Murders in the Building, starring Martin, Short, and Gomez, follows three Upper West Side residents who bond over their shared interest in true crime podcasts, only to find themselves wrapped up in real-life mysteries.

Back in April, Martin and Short had shared their admiration for Gomez in an interview after more than three years of working together on the show.

“Our friendship just keeps getting deeper,” Short said of Gomez. “She’s such a beautiful person, and her talent is extraordinary.

She has this amazing aura and spirit, and our bond just keeps growing.”

Martin added, “We didn’t really know Selena before this, but we knew she was smart and had an amazing personality. And she’s never late, which is a very big deal on set.”

Other nominees for the award included Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, and Shrinking.
