Selena Gomez opens up about Benny Blanco’s «really sweet» proposal, saying that «the right things were said» during the special moment
Benny Blanco opened up about how the timing of his December proposal to Selena Gomez was perfect, admitting that it «couldn’t have come at a better time.»

While Selena kept most of the details of the engagement private, calling it «really sweet» and something «the right things were said,» she did reveal that Blanco kept the engagement ring a secret from her friends before proposing.
During an interview for *Interview Magazine*, published on February 14, Gomez shared that she’s keeping the specifics of the proposal for future generations, saying, “That I want to save for our kids.»
Blanco added that he managed to surprise her with the proposal, saying it was the «sickest surprise» and that Gomez had no idea.

Reflecting on the lead-up to the proposal, Blanco humorously described how he almost slipped up and revealed the surprise early.
Blanco proposed on December 11 during a Taco Bell picnic, and Selena later confirmed the engagement on Instagram.
The ring featured a marquise diamond set on an eternity band, a design that Gomez had dreamed of since her 2015 hit «Good for You.»

Gomez admitted she wasn’t too particular about the ring’s design, although Blanco recalled how she had initially shown him a few designs before ultimately changing her mind.
The first ring had «huge baguettes» on the side, which Gomez didn’t want, so they were transformed into earrings—making it so she now has «three wedding rings.»
The couple’s interview coincides with the announcement of their new album, *I Said I Love You First*, set to release on March 21.
This album marks their first full-length project together, following their past collaborations on Gomez’s “Single Soon” and tracks from her *Revival* album. Their latest song, «Scared of Loving You,» is already available.
