Selena Gomez’s mom, Mandy Teefey, was the one who introduced her to her fiancé, Benny Blanco, with Selena admitting, «I liked him before he liked me.»
Selena Gomez’s mom, Mandy Teefey, played a pivotal role in introducing her to fiancé Benny Blanco.
During their first joint interview with on February 14, the 32-year-old singer and actress and 36-year-old music producer opened up about how Mandy set up their initial meeting.
“I was around 16 or 17 when we first met,” Gomez recalled of her first encounter with Blanco, to whom she became engaged in December 2024.
Blanco revealed that it was Selena’s mom who facilitated their meeting to discuss music.
“We had music out in 2013, or something,” Blanco explained. “Her mom arranged for us to meet. This was right when I was getting big and she wasn’t even a singer yet.”
For eight years, Mandy Teefey, alongside Gomez’s stepfather, Brian Teefey, managed Selena’s career while she rose to fame with the Disney Channel.
Blanco shared how much he was drawn to Gomez’s early music, noting, “When she started putting out music, I was all in.
I feel like she was the original sad girl. Everyone was like [beatboxing], and she was like, [sings] ‘I just want to look good for you.’ I loved it.”
As for how their romance began, Gomez reflected on how feelings developed while working together. “It was really simple,” she said.
“We were in the studio working on a song, and we just talked. That’s how easy it was for me. I liked him before he liked me.”
Blanco confessed he had no idea Gomez was interested in him romantically, recalling, “I was telling her I could hook her up with some of my friends.”
He added, “I hadn’t thought about it at all. Then we texted, and decided to go to dinner the next day. I guess she thought it was a date, but I had no clue.”
It was during their second date that Blanco realized Gomez was the one for him.
“You know when you meet the right person and it just feels different? The moment we started hanging out, I knew, ‘This is my wife.’
I was telling my mom, ‘This is the girl I’m going to marry.’ She’s my best friend.”
Blanco also expressed how perfect Gomez is for him, reflecting on how he wished their relationship had begun sooner. “It’s like, ‘How did we not figure this out sooner?’ I’m 36 years old,” he said.
In December 2023, Gomez confirmed her relationship with Blanco by liking fan posts on Instagram and commenting, “He is my absolute everything in my heart.”
