Doja Cat admits that nerves took over during her 2025 Oscars performance, revealing, «I hit some flats, bitch.»
Doja Cat opened up about her experience performing during the James Bond tribute at the 2025 Oscars in a heartfelt Instagram post on Monday, March 3, following some online backlash.
The 29-year-old singer took the stage to sing Diamonds Are Forever, originally performed by Shirley Bassey.
«I danced with Sarah Paulson last night, and Flow is my favorite movie because it tells such a beautiful story about friendship,» she shared, referring to the animated film that won Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards.
She expressed gratitude for the opportunity, writing, «Thank you to the Academy Awards and Vanity Fair for having me.
I rarely get to perform like that, and what I did was scary as hell, but brave. I know some people didn’t enjoy it, but others did, and I’m proud that I pushed myself.»
Doja went on to acknowledge the challenges she faced during the performance, saying, «The song is a classic, and I put a lot into it, but the nerves definitely got to me, and I hit some flats, lol.»
She concluded with excitement for future opportunities, adding, «I can’t wait to do something like this again. It was such a blessing. I feel great about it. Bye. 🙏💓»
While many fans were critical of Doja’s performance, with some mocking her vocals, others defended her.
One user wrote, «NOT THE VOCALS JUMPING OUT OH DOJA CAT, THE VERSATILITY YOU HAVE😭😭😭.»
Another added, «Y’all might attack me for this, but Doja Cat totally nailed her ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ performance… it gave theatre kid realness! 🎭»
For her performance, Doja was draped in diamonds, wearing a custom ensemble designed by her creative director, Brett Alan Nelson.
The outfit was adorned with over a million Swarovski crystals, giving the illusion of them floating around her body.
She also wore two different strapless gold gowns during the evening, one of which featured a striking animal print.
Doja also took the time to praise her fellow performers, writing, «Also, ALL the girls slayed last night, God BLESS them. Gorgeous performances from everyone 🥲.»
The James Bond tribute kicked off with Margaret Qualley in a red gown, dancing with a troupe of dancers in tuxedos.
Alongside Doja, RAYE performed Adele’s *Skyfall*, and BLACKPINK’s Lisa sang *Live and Let Die* by Wings.
