The newlyweds, who married over the weekend at the Kennedy estate in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, celebrated with 400 of their closest friends and family.
The towering cake, created by Confectionery Designs in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, had a lemon pound cake with raspberry cream filling, a chocolate pound cake with vanilla bean filling and strawberries, and a tier of lemon curd.
When it came time to cut into the delectable treat, Kennedy-Cuomo, 29, climbed a ladder to the top tier, like generations of her renowned family have done before.
Eunice Kennedy Shriver ascended to cut her 8-tier cake at her 1953 wedding to Sargent Shriver.Her daughter, Maria Shriver, did the same thing in 1986 when she married Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The couple went through extensive tastings to pick the perfect flavors for their wedding. Despite the cake’s tremendous size, not a single piece remained at the end of the night.
The dessert took days to make and involved several steps. It was baked ahead of time, then the filling was created, and last it was erected on-site.
