On Monday, May 1, Penelope Cruz arrived at the 2023 Met Gala looking stunning. The actress, 48, looked stunning as she attended the event,
which was also a tribute to the late German designer Karl Lagerfeld, who served as the inspiration for this year’s Met Gala’s theme «Karl Lagerfeld:
A Line Of Beauty.» She served as a co-chair alongside popstar Dua Lipa, tennis legend Roger Federer, screenwriter Michaela Coel,
and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Penelope shone as she walked the red carpet for the event in a white Chanel gown from 1988.
As she wore the flowing white gown, the actress had an incredibly elegant appearance. On the sleeves and torso of the dress, lovely diamonds formed an intricate pattern that included some leaves.
Even the translucent hood of the dress was covered in diamonds, framing Penelope’s face.
She added a belt with the company’s insignia on the outfit as a respect to the late Chanel designer.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she revealed that the dress was from one of Chanel’s 1980s collections. When asked what she was wearing, she replied, «Chanel couture, spring-summer 1988.»
Given that she was close with the late former Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away in 2019,
Penelope is an appropriate choice to serve as one of the event’s co-chairs.While speaking to ET, she shared how special it was to be a part of the tribute to him.
We were fortunate to be able to spend time with Karl, and being here to celebrate him is incredibly precious and emotional for me because I love and miss him so dearly.
He created the dress she wore at the 2019 Met Gala. She also participated in Karl’s farewell fashion presentation for Chanel after his death.
«I did that when Karl left us, and that was really special,» she said to People in a 2021 interview.
After his passing, the Oscar winner acknowledged that she had last seen him in New York at the Museum of Modern Art Film Benefit. We were strolling around Central Park at midnight, and she remarked, «It was really magical.»
Since Karl’s passing, Penelope has kept up her relationship with Chanel, appearing in advertisements for the renowned clothing company and collaborating with Margot Robbie in a recent campaign for Chanel Watches.
