The wives and girlfriends (WAGs) of the Kansas City Chiefs were likely intentional in choosing to wear white outfits at Super Bowl LIX, and Taylor Swift was no exception.
The pop star arrived at the game on February 9 to support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, donning a white tank top from Alaïa, a Saint Laurent blazer, bejeweled Monday Denim hot pants, and thigh-high boots from Paris Texas.
Brittany Mahomes, wife of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, also embraced the white theme, opting for custom Chiefs jeans, a corset, and a cropped jacket.
Other Chiefs WAGs followed suit, with Erica Watson, wife of wide receiver Justin Watson, rocking a white jumpsuit featuring embellished pants and Justin’s number, 84, on the chest.
Tavia Hunt, married to the team’s CEO Clark Hunt, cheered on her husband in white flared trousers, an embellished white tank, and a gold metallic blazer.
While fans may have expected Swift and the others to wear Chiefs red (a color she has worn in the past), their choice of white likely had a purpose.
The white outfits could be a subtle reference to the white jerseys the Chiefs are wearing as they compete against the Philadelphia Eagles.
This year’s Super Bowl is being played at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, a neutral venue, but the Eagles were designated as the home team and chose to wear their green jerseys.
As a result, the Chiefs are wearing white, as per tradition.
The WAGs’ coordinated color choice likely symbolizes support for their partners and the team.
It may also be a nod to good luck, as statistics show that 64% of teams wearing white uniforms in the Super Bowl have won.
Interestingly, the Chiefs and Eagles are two of the few teams to break that trend, as noted by Sports Illustrated, which points out that the 2020 and 2024 Chiefs teams, as well as the 2018 Eagles and 2011 Green Bay Packers, all won while wearing their colored jerseys.
The 2025 Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles is airing on Fox on Sunday, February 9.
