Ariana Grande corrects official Wicked social account on ‘Popular’ lyrics
Using a lyric video, the official Wicked movie account on Instagram hinted to Grande’s rendition of the popular song «Popular» by Galinda/Glinda.
Have Wicked’s lyrics been permanently altered? Ariana Grande says that the answer is no.
In a video containing lyrics and snippets from the moment in the upcoming musical film, the official Wicked film account on Instagram revealed Grande’s rendition of Galinda/Glinda’s popular song «Popular» on November 13.
The celebrity then criticized the account in a remark, claiming that it had shared an inaccurate lyric.
The lyrics, which are sung by Grande’s character to costar Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba in the video, are: «Popular, you’re gonna be popular / I’ll teach you how to flirt and flounce with males and how to communicate with grace, ooh!»
The vocalist of «7 Rings» later corrected the post in the comments section. «They are ‘ploys’!!!!!!» She wrote, «I love you @wickedmovie,» alluding to the song’s «poise» line.
Grande appears to be right because the phrase «I’ll teach you the proper ploys when you talk to boys» is in the official Wicked sheet music for the original Broadway production, which was published by Hal Leonard Corporation.
Nov. 22 is when Wicked: Part One opens in cinemas. Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Bowen Yang as Pfannee, Keala Settle as Miss Coddle, Ethan Slater as Boq, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero are also featured in the movie.
Kristin Chenoweth, who created the Broadway version of Galinda/Glinda, stated in a recent interview that she «can’t wait» for Grande to play the part.
«I couldn’t be more excited for her, and I can’t wait for the world to see what I know, which is how funny she is,» she stated.
«She’s wickedly funny, a fantastic actor and she’s going to get the opportunity to show it in this part.»
The 56-year-old Chenoweth also disclosed the counsel she offered Grande. «You need to do your own version of Glinda, and I’m letting you do it,» I informed her.
And that’s the only thing I’ve done to aid her,» she clarified. «I let go of the reins.»
