Brenda Song shared that becoming a mother made her «question a lot» after experiencing two pregnancies within the same calendar year

Brenda Song’s life took a significant turn when she became a mother. The 36-year-old actress, who shares two sons—Dakota, 3, and Carson, 2—with fiancé Macaulay Culkin, opened up in a new *Bustle* cover story about how motherhood reshaped her world.

«I had two pregnancies in the same year. It was a lot,» Song admits, reflecting on the challenges.

«Once I became a mom, I started questioning everything: my role in the industry, society’s views on women and aging, and the pressure to conform to certain beauty standards.

It made me rethink things I’d never questioned before.» She also revealed that her priorities shifted, making her question whether acting could still fit into her life, as she couldn’t just pick up and leave for months to shoot a movie anymore.

Finding balance between family and career was possible with the support of Culkin. «Family comes first,» Song says. «But to be the best partner and parent, I need to be the best version of myself. Part of that is having a fulfilling career.»

Song also discussed her decision to keep her children out of the public eye, citing their experience at Culkin’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2023.

«It was a special moment, but Dak was scared of the cameras,» she shares. «That’s why we try to keep them away from the spotlight.»

A moment at a soccer game reaffirmed her choice to protect their privacy. «My son asked, ‘Why is that man taking pictures of you, mama?'» she recalls.

«I’m fine with pictures of me, but when it’s my kids, it’s different. They didn’t ask for this life.»
