Cher recalls Gene Simmons saying he loved her after just one date, even though they hadn’t kissed

In her new memoir Cher: The Memoir, Part One, Cher reflects on her two-year relationship with KISS frontman Gene Simmons

The two first crossed paths in 1977 when Cher was invited to a reception for President Gerald Ford, hosted by her record label head, Neil Bogart.

Upon meeting Simmons, Cher initially mistook him for British actress Jean Simmons. By the end of the evening, she was impressed by him.

Their connection grew after Simmons drove Cher home and later brought KISS memorabilia for her son, Chaz Bono.

The following night, the two went on a date to a Tubes concert, where Simmons flirted with both Cher and her friend. The next day, he called to apologize for his behavior, though Cher and her friend weren’t interested.

Simmons’ admiration for Cher continued, with the rocker even accumulating a $2,800 phone bill from speaking to her while he was in Japan.

In Cher: The Memoir, Part One, Cher reflects on her relationship with Gene Simmons, revealing that he professed his love after just one date. «We hadn’t even kissed,» she writes, questioning the quickness of his confession.

Cher explains that their unconventional relationship, which began after her split from Gregg Allman, was not strictly monogamous.

While Simmons spent time with other women, Cher maintained that he was the only one she was «crazy about.»

Despite their deep affection, Simmons eventually left Cher for Diana Ross. Cher: The Memoir, Part One is now available for purchase.
