Daddy Yankee and Mireddys González Part Ways After Almost 30 Years of Marriage: «This Is a Difficult Time»
«I know this news may come as a surprise to many,» Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee said on his Instagram Stories on Monday, Dec. 2, announcing his split from wife Mireddys González after nearly 30 years of marriage.
In the post, the 47-year-old artist (born Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez) confirmed the end of his marriage to González, also 47, which began in March 1995.
«With a heart full of respect and honesty, I want to share some important news about my personal life,» the message, translated from Spanish, began.
The «Dura» singer reflected on his relationship with his high school sweetheart, sharing, «After more than two decades of marriage and months of trying to save our relationship, today my lawyers responded to the divorce petition received from Mireddys.»
«I respect Mireddys’ decision,» Daddy Yankee wrote, expressing gratitude for their time together, filled with blessings, love, and a beautiful family that remains a priority.
«This is not an easy time, but I understand it’s part of my life process,» he continued, emphasizing the need to «accept and continue.»
He mentioned their two children, Jesaaelys, 28, and Jeremy, 26, as well as his daughter Yamilet from a previous relationship, saying, «I will protect my stability, my children, and everything we’ve built over the years.»
He asked for privacy and thanked supporters, stating, «This will be my only statement.»
Though the couple kept their relationship private, Daddy Yankee had previously spoken fondly of his family, calling them «the most beautiful thing» in his life and expressing his dedication to providing a better life for them.
