Demi Moore developed an eating disorder after producer hounded her to lose weight: It was ‘humiliating’
Demi Moore disclosed that after being «humiliated» by producers who advised her to «lose weight,» she developed an eating issue.
In an interview with Elle Magazine, the 62-year-old actress, who previously talked about her naked moment in The Substance, also talked openly about her «obsession» with «working out» that dominated her for «five years.»
She remembered the ’embarrassing’ incident on Thursday, saying that one of her producers ‘took [her] away’ and told her to lose weight’multiple times.’
Regarding the interaction with the unidentified producer, she stated, «I internalized it.»
«It brought me to a place where I was so cruel and tormented by myself, where I engaged in truly extreme behaviors, and where I essentially based my entire identity on the way my body looked.»
She said that the «torment I put myself through when I was younger» was fuelled by the incident, which was «just one thing.»
In her 2019 biography, Inside Out, the Songbird singer previously discussed her eating condition.
In 1997, she revealed that she ‘had an epiphany’ that she ‘simply wanted to be [her] natural size.’
Moore said that she didn’t feel «sexy» enough for some parts or mature enough for others, which made working in Hollywood harder as she grew older.
She told the magazine, «I wasn’t what they thought 40 or 50 was either, but I wasn’t 20 or 30 either.»
They weren’t entirely sure where I belonged, and I didn’t make that up. I was informed about that.
The brunette beauty is thankful to have a job in acting and is currently focusing on her fears and healing that aspect of her life.
The fact that I can still accomplish this astounds me. «I’m still in awe of where my life has led me,» she remarked.
Because of her unafraid approach to appearing nude on television, Moore was considered a sex icon when she first rose through the ranks of the business in the 1980s and 1990s.
She defied her own standards and recorded a full-frontal naked scene for her recently released movie, The Substance.
After seeing the sequence in postproduction, she admitted to the magazine that she didn’t like it at first but didn’t demand any modifications.
She added, «It’s like, ugh, it irritates me so much.» «I knew it was for something more important than myself, so I didn’t ask for any adjustments.»
Regarding the film’s portrayal of high expectations for older women, she stated, «It felt like any hardship, any exposure of my own insecurities, would be worth it if I was part of bringing forward the conversation.»
Given that she starred in the 1986 film About Last Night, which had startling love scenes with Rob Lowe, Moore is no stranger to stripping for the camera.
In Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle from 2003, she also wore tight swimsuits. In 1993’s Indecent Proposal and 1996’s Striptease, the actress also appeared semi-naked.
She caused a stir in 1991 when she appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair in naked pregnancy images taken by her then-husband Bruce Willis while she was seven months pregnant.
She and Willis are parents to three daughters: Tallulah, 30, Scout, 33, and Rumer, 36.
