Fans go crazy when Taylor Swift performs a Joe Jonas breakup medley: «A special request from Sophie Turner»
When Taylor Swift sang a mashup of her breakup songs about Joe Jonas during her Eras Tour show in Toronto on Thursday, her fans went crazy.
Joe was Taylor’s first public lover, and he served as the catalyst for her subsequent celebrity relationships with Travis Kelce, Jake Gyllenhaal, Calvin Harris, and Tom Hiddleston.
In July 2008, when they were both eighteen, Emily and Joe started dating. Three months later, he famously ended their relationship in a phone conversation that she claims lasted 27 seconds.
Joe, 35, and Taylor, 34, were able to have a friendly relationship in the years that followed, and he eventually married Sophie Turner, star of Game of Thrones.
But after Joe’s marriage failed last year, Sophie was frequently spotted out with Taylor as their connection became stronger.
Taylor performed a mix of her songs about Joe, Better Than Revenge and Mr. Perfectly Fine, at the most recent show of her blockbuster tour.
Taylor’s 2011 album Speak Now featured the song «Better Than Revenge,» which was initially seen as a parody of Joe’s relationship with Camilla Belle.
In the song, Taylor sneers, «She’s going to find you soon; stealing other people’s toys on the playground won’t make you many friends.»
«She should remember that nothing I do is more effective than getting even.»
News of Taylor’s mix of the two songs went viral on social media on Thursday, leaving fans speechless.
Someone made the joke, «Sophie Turner smiles while Joe Jonas wakes up in a cold sweat somewhere in New Jersey!» as a third joked that the mashup was «Sophie Turner’s special request,» while another deadpanned: «Joe Jonas found dead.»
One user of X, previously Twitter, cracked: «Joe Jonas just felt a sharp pain at the back of his neck.» Taylor was praised for doing «the funniest thing.»
Taylor criticized Joe for his relationship-ending strategy on The Ellen DeGeneres Show the month following their breakup.
«I’m going to find someone truly amazing for me someday.» «He’ll be amazing when I find the right person,» Taylor launched.
