‘I’m Often the Comic Relief’ Elizabeth Banksabout receiving Leading Lady Offers
The actress and producer opens out about obtaining meatier offers after 28 years in the business—and many years portraying ingenue or ‘comic relief’ roles.
Elizabeth Banks says she’s rarely the true lead of a movie, let alone a serious one like her latest film, A Mistake, in which she portrays both a latest Zealander and a surgeon who gets caught up in a scandal at the hospital.
«It’s really only been in my second life as an actress here that I’ve started playing the lead role,» Banks, who is 53 years old, said.
The star adds, «I’m frequently handed more comic relief roles. So having this offer felt like, «Wow, I’m going to be in every scene of this film, playing a character who’s very good at their job, and it’s all very serious.»
Elizabeth Banks has been in a wide range of productions since her acting career began in the late 1990s, including Wet Hot American Summer, when she played a hot camp counselor.
A wise-cracking judge from the Pitch Perfect trilogy. The bloodthirsty Effie Trinket from the Hunger Games flicks.
Still, she notes that she is rarely the true lead in a film, let alone a serious one like her current film, A Mistake, in which she portrays both a current Zealander and a surgeon who becomes embroiled in a hospital scandal.
«It’s really only been in my second life as an actress here that I’ve started playing the lead role,» Banks, who is 53, said.
«It’s because I was a tremendous innovator for a long period. I portrayed the lady in several films with some wonderful leading males,» she says.
«And then I had smaller roles in huge movies like The Hunger Games and Pitch Perfect, but never quite that DC or Marvel movie lead.»
