Lady Gaga makes major career update post flop ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ performance
Lady Gaga is returning to her roots.
On Friday, the 38-year-old New York City native will release her song, Disease, following her poorly received role in the unsuccessful film Joker: Folie à Deux.
The Grammy-winning musician hinted about Diesase, the opening track off her upcoming seventh album, on Tuesday by captioning the photo, «DISEASE 10.25.»
The actress-singer, whose true name is Stefani Germanotta, was shown running from a car in a teaser video seen from the perspective of an oncoming car. She had a black mane.
According to Variety, Gaga’s company Universal Music released pre-saves for the upcoming track on Monday along with links to Apple Music and Spotify.
«Gaga also released a Spotify playlist where the letters in her songs spell out ‘Gaga Disease,'» the source reported.
‘Disease’ was painted on the pavement, along with a string of dates, hours, and cities, and Lady Gaga shared an accompanying photograph on Monday that seemed to show her figure stretched across the front of a car.
With the September release of her album Harlequin, which was influenced by Joker: Folie à Deux, the singer—whose successes include Bad Romance, Born This Way, Just Dance, and Poker Face—is returning to her pop image.
The album featured two brand-new songs in addition to well-known tunes like «Get Happy,» «That’s Entertainment,» and «That’s Life.»
It was not an early commercial success, much like the movie, and it debuted at number 20 on the Billboard 200 lists, her lowest-ever entry for a full-length record.
In the film, Lady Gaga portrayed Harley Quinn, who was opposite Joaquin Phoenix, who won the Oscar for Best Actor for his part in the 2019 Joker movie.
Joker: Folie à Deux «could potentially lose $150 to $200 million,» the publication said, even though studio insiders predicted the film would break even.
According to Box Office Mojo, the Warner Bros. movie has brought in $192.2 million globally, including $56.6 million at the US box office.
Despite the movie’s initial commercial and critical failure, some fans believe it will be seen positively in years to come.
With her collaboration with Bruno Mars on Die With a Smile, which was published in August and peaked at number three on Billboard’s Hot 100, Lady Gaga has seen some recent commercial success.
Her studio album Chromatica, released in 2020, featured the smash track «Rain on Me,» a duet with Ariana Grande, and debuted at the top of the charts.
