Lucy Liu opens up about why she decided to speak out regarding Bill Murray’s behavior on the set of *Charlie’s Angels*, stating, «I am going to protect myself.»

Lucy Liu is revisiting the confrontation she had with Bill Murray during the filming of *Charlie’s Angels*, reflecting on the incident 25 years after the movie’s release.

During the 2000 action-comedy’s production, Liu reportedly had an uncomfortable encounter with Murray, who allegedly began to hurl insults at her while they were filming a scene, using what she described as “inexcusable and unacceptable” language.

Despite feeling like she had little creative control, Liu stood up for herself.

In a recent interview with *The Guardian* published on January 13, Liu, now 56, expressed that she has no regrets about how she handled the situation.

“I really didn’t think about it,” she said of her response to Murray, now 74. “I would have done that in any situation. When I sense something is not right, I am going to protect myself. It’s an innate reaction when you feel there’s injustice, and I always feel that way.”

She added that staying silent would have made things easier, but she couldn’t be that person. “We had to find a way,” Liu explained.

The altercation resurfaced on social media in 2021, prompting Liu to address the incident on the *Los Angeles Times’ Asian Enough* podcast.

She explained that while filming, Murray repeatedly insulted her, which she initially found shocking. «I was like, ‘Wow, he seems like he’s looking straight at me.’ I couldn’t believe it,” she recalled.

Liu said she asked him, “Are you talking to me?” after realizing the insults were directed at her. «Some of the language was inexcusable and unacceptable, and I was not going to just sit there and take it,» Liu added.

«I stood up for myself, and I don’t regret it. No matter your position, there’s no reason to condescend or put others down.»

Since Liu’s account, Murray has faced multiple allegations of inappropriate behavior. In October 2022, he settled with a female staffer from *Being Mortal* after claims of inappropriate actions.

Seth Green and Geena Davis also shared negative experiences with Murray on set. Davis, who recalled Murray berating her on *Quick Change*, noted his reputation for being difficult to work with, saying, «He knows very well the way he can behave.»
