Selena Gomez shares how her *Only Murders in the Building* co-stars, Martin Short and Steve Martin, responded to her engagement to Benny Blanco
Selena Gomez knows she can always count on the support of her *Only Murders in the Building* co-stars, Martin Short and Steve Martin, and she recently shared how they reacted to her engagement to Benny Blanco.
Following a viral clip from the 2025 Golden Globes showing Short admiring her new engagement ring, Gomez gave more details on *Jimmy Kimmel Live!* about the interaction.
«He was twisting it, taking it off,» Gomez recalled, noting she was confused at the time. When asked if he was appraising it, she humorously said, «He just wanted to know what was going on.»
Kimmel then asked if Blanco had asked her co-stars for permission to propose. Gomez clarified that he didn’t, but jokingly mentioned she had a feeling Short “wasn’t very happy about that” and had teased them about it.
As for Martin’s reaction, Gomez shared that he sent a thoughtful email to her assistant to offer his congratulations. “That’s how he communicates,» she laughed. «It’s very kind, but it’s okay to send a little text.”
When Kimmel suggested giving Short and Martin «jobs» at her wedding, including as «ringbearers,» Gomez said, «That would be adorable,» expressing that she would be open to the idea.
Short also shared his congratulations on social media, posting a picture with Gomez and Martin with the caption, «Congratulations to Benny and Selena, from her two weird uncles.»
In a heartfelt Instagram post in April 2024, Gomez had praised Short and Martin as «the most kind, gentle, warm and powerful influences in my life,» calling them «best friends forever.»
