‘The World Is Crying for You, Brother’: Shawn Mendes’s New Song for Liam Payne
Payne, a former member of One Direction, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, at the age of 31, following a fall from a hotel balcony.
Some of Shawn Mendes’ new songs are dedicated to Liam Payne, the late member of One Direction.
In remembrance of Payne, who passed away on Wednesday, October 16, at the age of 31, the 26-year-old singer of «Stitches» halted his performance in New York City on Friday, October 18.
In a fan-shot video of the performance that was circulated on social media, Mendes talked openly about his brief interactions with the «Strip That Down» singer, referring to him as a «beautiful soul.»
Mendes opened his speech to the Brooklyn Paramount Theater audience by saying, «We heard the news about Liam,» «It was utterly catastrophic, it seemed.
He had a lovely person, and his eyes shone with beauty that shone into them. I had the opportunity to meet him a few times.
«I just want to take a moment to offer him so much love, wherever he is up there. It’s about celebrating them and who they were and what they left in this world, as well as grieving them with tears.
We adore you, Liam,» he said. «We are all praying for your kid and your family, and the entire globe is in tears for you, brother. You are missed. Tonight, Liam, this is for you from all of us.»
Mendes then introduced «Heart of Gold,» a new song off his upcoming album of the same name, Shawn.
Additionally, it seems that the Brooklyn performance was featured in his next concert video, For Friends and Family Only, which will be published on November 14, the day before his album is released.
As previously verified by Policía Federal Argentina, Payne died after falling from a hotel balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The revelation was initially reported by TN, an Argentine news station.
Numerous friends, family members, and other celebrities have paid their respects to Payne after his passing.
These include his sister, his former bandmates from One Direction, his ex-girlfriend Kate Cassidy, and his ex-wife Cheryl, with whom he has a 7-year-old son named Bear.
The members of One Direction, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan, posted a joint statement on Instagram on Thursday, October 17, stating that they are grieving «the loss of our brother.»
According to their statement, «We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing.»
There will be more to say when everyone has the time to do so. However, for the time being, we will take some time to mourn and come to terms with the death of our beloved brother.»
The message went on to say, in part: «We will always cherish the moments we had with him. We are now thinking about his family, friends, and the people that shared our love for him. He will be sorely missed.
