When Serena Williams claims that a restaurant refused to seat her, the eatery replies

Serena Williams voiced her displeasure with a certain upscale dining establishment in Paris.

The retired tennis star said on X (previously known as Twitter) on Monday, August 5, that she was refused a table at the Peninsula Hotel in Paris, along with the children of Alexis Ohanian, who is six years old, and Adira River, who is eleven months old.

«Aw shucks, Peninsula Paris I’ve been turned away from finer places’ rooftop restaurants 🫠but never with my kids,» she remarked. «Firsts always. 🙄 #Olympic2024.»

The eatery then responded to the 42-year-old four-time Olympic gold medallist.

Greetings, Mrs. Williams, We sincerely apologize for the disappointment you had this evening.

The company’s initial response on Monday stated, «Unfortunately, our rooftop bar was indeed fully booked and the only empty tables you saw belonged to our gourmet restaurant, L’Oiseau Blanc, which was fully reserved.»

It has always been an honor to greet you, and it will continue to be so when you return. «The Peninsula Paris,» there, was a subsequent post.

PEOPLE’s request for additional information on Monday was not immediately answered by representatives for Williams or The Peninsula, Paris.

Maxime Mannevy, a worker at L’Oiseau Blanc, told Variety that Williams appeared «unrecognizable» when she arrived at the eatery pushing a pram beside another lady.

«There were only two tables available when she arrived, and they had been reserved by hotel guests,» Mannevy claimed, clarifying to the source that she wasn’t working at the restaurant when Williams was there.

«Although my colleague felt awful since he didn’t know her, he gave her the same advice he would have given to any other client: wait downstairs in the bar till a table opens up. That has nothing at all to do with you personally.
