After being invited to sing the national anthem during the game, Selena Gomez surprised the school volleyball team
Selena Gomez surprised the Telluride High School girls volleyball team in Colorado after they asked her to perform the National Anthem at their big game.
The Same Old Love hitmaker, 32 — who sparked engagement rumors with boyfriend Benny Blanco — dropped by the high school on Saturday while in town for the 2024 Telluride Film Festival on Saturday.
She took to Instagram to share a clip of herself arriving to the court as the volleyball players and game attendees swarmed her.
The Rare Beauty founder looked elegant in a blazer and jeans as she helped the team kick off the match.
‘They asked!! Couldn’t help it, it’s my first time in Telluride!’ Gomez penned in the caption.
Selena shared a photo of the poster Telluride High’s girls volleyball team made, asking her to perform at one of their two home games.
The bright orange poster was stapled to a bulletin board and read: ‘Selena Gomez, Please sing the National Anthem, one of our home games ~ THS Volleyball Team.’
It was decorated with hearts and signed with a coach’s email.
Gomez took time to sign autographs and pose for selfies while joined by her Emilia Pérez co-stars Karla Sofia Gascon and Adriana Paz.
It’s unclear if Gomez ended up performing the National Anthem at Saturday’s game, but she did share a clip of herself in the school’s gym as fans screamed her name.
Her surprise appearance warmed her followers’ hearts, with the post racking up almost 2million likes and hundreds of supportive comments.
‘The people’s princess,’ pal Adelaine Morin wrote. Meanwhile, her boyfriend Benny Blanco left three red-heart and heart-eye emojis.
She is attending the Telluride Film festival this weekend to promote her latest film, Netflix’s Emilia Pérez.
The musical film follows a Mexican lawyer who is offered to help a ‘feared cartel boss retire from his business and disappear forever by becoming the woman he’s always dreamed of being,’ per an official description.
